The Silver Road: Reflections on Art as a Healing Process – Susan Michaelson

Event Details

Susan will give an illustrated talk about her own work as a visual artist and will describe her research and involvement with the SMN network.

Sue Michaelson is a visual artist who also has a background in Transpersonal Psychology. She trained with Barbara Somers and Ian Gordon Brown in London and for many years was an active member of EUROTAS (The European Transpersonal Association) From 1993 – 1996, she was involved in research that made bridges between Transpersonal Psychology and Image – Making, completing an M Phil at the Royal College of Art, then a PhD at the University of Brighton, which focussed on the voice of the Feminine Principle in the visual arts. The research was by project, which meant that it included both a written thesis and a considerable body of art work.

Sue has been a lecturer in colleges of Art and Design in London and run workshops related to her research both in the UK and abroad. Her special interest is in the power, importance and magical nature of images and image-making and a connection between Shamanism and art work, which she explored through a number of visits to Russia and Siberia. Over the last 20 years, she has travelled extensively and made art work on location in Morocco, where she currently spends much of her time. She is the mother of 2 children and has 4 grandchildren.
