John Kapp CEng, FIEE, MIMech E

John joined the SMN in 2005, and has attended most of its conferences since, and contributed papers. He was secretary of the Sussex Centre from 2006-10.  He inherited an interest in the philosophy of science from his father, Prof Reginald Kapp, and republished his books on www.reginaldkapp.org. This also contains his own papers on health and well-being.

His career was in consulting engineering on electricity supply in the Middle and Far East. He was company secretary of the Brighton West Pier Trust (which hosts the British Airways i360 ride, which could become the biggest sundial in the world). He founded and the Marabu Sailing Club and sailing school from 1978-2000, and sailed offshore and ocean. In 2001 he founded Planet Janet (now called Revitalise) in Hove.  In 2010 he founded the Social Enterprise Complementary Therapy Company (SECTCo), see www.sectco.org.uk, which campaigns for more NICE recommended Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) 8 week courses to be commissioned on the NHS so that GPs can prescribe them to depressed patients. He supports the SMN because science needs to drop materialism and adopt holism, for the sake of the planet, and all its inhabitants. He is married to Phoebe Wyss, astrologer, with whom he lives in Hove.
