About this Event
Everyone is feeling the pressures of change and confinement right now with the spread of the coronavirus. During unusual times of stress like this life can feel overwhelming and we might find it difficult to manage our emotional state. Experiences of anxiety, stress and other strong emotions can become very familiar.

In response to this need Paradigm Explorers: London has teamed up with transpersonal coach and psychologist JULES DE VITTO to bring you an online workshop designed to help you explore the relationship between practices of self-compassion and our ability to build resilience during times of crisis.

What is Resilience?

Resiliency is our ability to bounce back and recover from difficult situations or challenging periods of our lives. It can be cultivated by engaging in regular practices or developing a routine and healthy habits that helps us manage our emotional, physical and mental health.

We can engage in activities to reduce the sympathetic nervous system (the fight, flight or freeze response) and activate the parasympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the ‘rest and digest’ system helps us to relax and enter a more open and expansive state. It lowers our heart rate, allows the body to heal and restore itself and ultimately enables us to be more resilient in stressful situations.

The online workshop will cover

  • What is self-compassion and why is it so important?
  • Why we start with self-compassion before extending compassion out to others and the world?
  • The research to support the benefits of self-compassion

We will practice some mindful, self-compassion activities and discover how they help build our resilience by

  • Settling into the emotions of uncertainty
  • Discovering that vulnerability is a strength
  • Letting go of resistance and finding acceptance
  • Creating space for all our emotions and experiences

Jules De Vitto

Jules has an MSc in Transpersonal Psychology, Consciousness and Spirituality and is a qualified Transpersonal Coach. She is also an experienced teacher with an MA in Education. Jules combines her training in teaching, counselling, coaching and complementary therapy to form her unique approach to psycho-spiritual transformation, healing and growth.
